TABELLAE N. F.
Tablets

These are discs of two classes; tablet triturates and compressed tablets. The  former are made by triturating together the active ingredient with sugar or some other diluent  and moistening with some volatile liquid which permits the tablets to be molded into the desired shape and subsequently dried. They are friable and dissolve or  disintegrate rapidly when dropped into water. The compressed tablets consist chiefly or wholly of active substances compressed into form  by means of dies.
They are harder and less friable than the triturates and more slowly soluble.  (See Pilullae, Part I.)

TABELLAE CARBONIS ANIMALIS. N. F.
Tablets of Animal Charcoal [Tab. Carb. Anim.]

These are compressed tablets each containing 0.3 Gm. (4.6 grains) of animal  charcoal.
Dose, one or two tablets.
 

TABELLAE HYDRARGYRI CHLORIDI MITIS. N.F.
Tablets of Mild Mercurous Chloride [Tab. Hydrarg. Chlor. Mit.] Calomel  Tablets.

These are compressed tablets each of which contains 1/10 grain (0.0065 Gm.)  of calomel colored pink with carmine.
Dose, ten to thirty tablets, usually in divided  doses.

Each of these contains about 1 grain (0.06 Gm.) of phenolphthalein. They are  flavored with cinnamon and cocoa.
The dose is one or two tablets.

TABELLAE, SANTONINI. N. F.
Tablets of Santonin [Tab. Santonin.] Replacing Trochisci Santonini, N. F.  IV.

Each of these compressed tablets contains about � grain (0.03 Om.) of  santonin, flavored with vanilla and cocoa.
Caution: Because of the pleasant flavor of these  tablets and the possibility of their being mistaken for candy, it is advisable  to order only a very few at a time, preferably not more than three" since 0.13 Gm. of santonin has caused the death of a  child." N. F.
The dose is from one to four tablets for an adult.

Each of these contains about % grain each of santonin and calomel, flavored  with vanilla and cocoa. The same caution applies as in the case of santonin tablets.
The dose for an adult is one to four tablets.

Tablets of Sodium Bicarbonate [Tab. Sod. Bicarb.]
Replacing Trochisci Sodii Bicarbonatis, N. F. IV. Soda Mint Tablets.

Each of these compressed tablets contains about 4 grains ( 0.25 Gm. ) of  sodium bicarbonate with 1-20th of a minim (0.003 cc.) of oil of peppermint.
The dose is from one to four tablets or more, as required.

TABELLIE SULPHURIS ET POTASSII BITARTRATIS. N. F.
Tablets of Sulphur and Potassium Bitartrate [Tab. Sulph. et Pot. Bitart.]
Replacing Trochisci Sulphuris et Potassii Bitartratis. N. F . IV.

Each tablet contains about 3 grains (0.2 Gm.) of washed sulphur and I grain (  0.06 Gm. ) of potassium bitartrate, flavored with oil of orange.
The dose is from  five to ten tablets.

Tinctures.

The tinctures of the
N.F. like those of the USP. are made by  one of two processes. Those of potent drugs are of 10 per cent. strength, corresponding to the  International Protocol; the others are of various concentrations.

TINCTURA ALOES. N. F.
Tincture of Aloe [Tr. Aloe.]

This is the same, as the- tincture of aloe of the U. S. IX. It represents 10  per cent. of aloe.
The dose is from one-half to one fluidrachm (2 - 4 cc.)

TINCTURA ALOES ET MYRRHAE. N. F.
Tincture of Aloes and Myrrh [Tr. Aloe et Myrrh.]

This tincture is made with 10 per cent. each of aloes, myrrh, and licorice in  a menstruum of three volumes of alcohol with one of water.
The dose is from one-half to one fluidrachm ( 2 - 4 cc.)

TINCTURA AMARA. N. F.
Bitter Tincture [Tr. Amar.]

Stomachic Tincture; Bitter Stomachic Drops; Stomach Drops.
It is made from gentian, centaury, bitter orange peel and zedoary, two  volumes of alcohol, and one volume of water, being used as the menstruum. It is a bitter tonic.
The dose is thirty minims ( 2 cc.)

TINCTURA ANTIMONII. N. F.
Tincture of Antimony [Tr. Antimon.]
Replacing.Vinum Antimonii, N. F. IV.

This contains 0.4 per cent. of the antimony and potassium tartrate in a  menstruum of water and alcohol, colored with caramel and flavored with acetic  ether. " Tincture of antimony may be dispensed, when Vinum Antimonii (Wine of  Antimony) is ordered." N .F .
Dose, from ten to thirty minims ( 0.6 - 2 cc.)

TINCTURA ANTIPERIODICA. N.F.
Antiperiodic Tincture [Tr. Antiperiod. Warburg's Tincture]

This tincture is made from rhubarb, angelica fruit, elecampane, saffron,  fennel, gentian, zedoary, cubeb, myrrh, camphor, white agaric, black pepper,  cinnamon, ginger, quinine bisulphate, and extract of aloes, three volumes of alcohol, and two volumes of water, being  used as the menstruum. About 9 grains of quinine bisulphate are contained in I fluidounce of  finished tincture.
Dosage.-The dosage of Warburg's tincture' depends on the kind  used-whether with aloes or without and the intended purpose, and varies from one  fluidrachm (4 cc.) to four fluidrachms ( 16 cc. ) .The larger quantity is given  when Doctor Warburg's original directions are followed for administering the  remedy in remittent fevers, which were as follows: " One-half ounce to be given  alone without dilution, after the bowels have been evacuated by any convenient  purgative, all drink being withheld. After three hours, another half ounce is to be given." It is an antiperiodic.

Antiperiodic Tincture without Aloes [Tr. Antiperiod. s. Aloe. Warburg's  Tincture without Aloes]

This is made as directed under Tinctura, Anti-periodica omitting the extract  of aloes.
For dosage, see Tinctura, Antiperiodica.

TINCTURA ARNICAE N. F.
Tincture of Arnica [Tr. Arnic.]

This represents 20 per cent. of arnica in a menstruum of diluted alcohol. It  is used chiefly externally.
Dose, from ten to twenty minims ( 0.6 - 1.2 cc.)

TINCTURA AROMATICA. N. F.
Aromatic Tincture [Tr. Arom.]

This tincture is made from cinnamon, ginger , galangal, clove and cardamom,  two volumes of alcohol, and one volume of water being used as the menstruum. It is used as a  carminative and aromatic.
The dose is thirty minims ( 2 cc.).

TINCTURA BRYONIAE. N. F.
Tincture of Bryonia [Tr. Bryon.]

This tincture is made by maceration and subsequent percolation, using 10 per  cent. bryonia and alcohol. It is used as an alterative and hydragogue cathartic.
The dose is one fluidrachm ( 4 cc. )

TINCTURA CACTI GRANDIFLORI. N. F.
Tincture of Cactus Grandiflorus [Tr. Cact. Grand.]

This tincture is made from 50 per cent. cactus grandiflorus and alcohol by  maceration and expression and further percolation of this marc. It is supposed  by some to act as a regulator of cardiac arrythmias.
The dose is fifteen minims ( I cc.)

TINCTURA CALENDUAE. N. F.
Tincture of Calendula [Tr. Calend.]

This tincture is made by maceration with 20 per cent. calendula and aIcohol.  Used as an antiseptic and discutient.

TINCTURA CAPSICI ET MYRRHAE. N. F.
Tincture of Capsicum and Myrrh [Tr. Capsic. et Myrrh. Hot Drops. Thomsonian  Number Six]

It is made from capsicum, myrrh, nine volumes of alcohol, and one volume of  water being used as the menstruum. It is a powerful gastric stimulant and carminative.
The dose is thirty minims ( 2 cc. )

TINCTURA CIMICIFUGAE. N. F.
Tincture of Cimicifuga [Tr. Cimicif.]

This tincture is made by maceration and subsequent percolation with alcohol.  It contains 20 percent. of cimicifuga. Used as an; alterative and sedative.
The dose is one fluidrachm ( 4 cc.)

TINCTURA CINNAMOMI. N. F.
Tincture of Cinnamon [Tr. Cinnam.]

This is essentially the same as the tincture of the U. S. IX, representing 20  per cent. of cinnamon.
Dose, from one.half to two fluidrachms (2 - 8 cc.)

TINCTURA COCCULI INDICI. N. F.
Tincture of Cocculus Indicus [Tr. Coccul. Ind.]

This tincture is made from 10 per cent. powdered fish berries with diluted  alcohol by maceration and subsequent percolation. This tincture is used almost  exclusively for external application to destroy parasites.

TINCTURA COLCHICI CORMI FORTIOR N. F.
Stronger Tincture of Colchicum Corm Replacing Vinum Colchi Cormi, N. F.  IV.

This represents 40 per cent. of colchicum corm in a menstruum of one volume  of alcohol and two of water. One hundred cc. of Stronger Tincture of Colchicum Corm yields not  less than 0.126 Gm. and not more than 0.154 Gm. of colchicine." N. F. Note. Stronger Tincture of  Colchicum Corm may be dispensed when Vinum Colchici Cormi is ordered.
Dose, from five to ten minims ( 0.3 - 0.6 cc. )

TINCTURA CROCI. N. F.
Tincture of Saffron [Tr. Croc.]

This tincture is made from saffron, 10 per cent., in diluted alcohol,  prepared by maceration and subsequent percolation. Used as coloring and flavoring agent.

TINCTURA CUBEBAE. N. F.
Tincture of Cubeb [Tr. Cubeb.]

This tincture is made from cubeb, 20 per cent. in alcohol, by maceration and  subsequent percolation. Used as a diuretic and carminative. The dose is one  fluidrachm ( 4 cc. )

TINCTURA DELPHINII. N. F.
Tincture of Larkspur [Tr. Delphin.]

This tincture is made from 10 per cent. larkspur seed in alcohol, made by  maceration and subsequent percolation. This tincture is rarely used internally;  but is commonly employed externally to destroy body vermin.

TINCTURA FERRI CHLORIDI AETHEREA. N.F.
Ethereal Tincture of Ferric Chloride [Tr.Ferr.Chlor. Aeth.] Bestuscheff's  Tincture. Lamotte's Drops.

It is made from solution of ferric chloride, ether, and alcohol. Used as a  chalybeate.
The dose is thirty minims ( 2 cc. )

TINCTURA FERRI CITRO - CHLORIDI. N. F.
Tincture of Ferric Citro-Chloride [Tr. Ferr. Citro-Chlor.]

Tasteless Tincture of Ferric Chloride. Tasteless Tincture of Iron. This  tincture contains 35 per cent. of solution of ferric chloride with sodjum  citrate, alcohol and water. Used as a chalybeate.
The dose is eight minims ( 0.5 cc.)

TINCTURA FERRI POMATA. N. F.
Tincture of Ferrated Extract of Apples [Tr. Ferr. Pomat.]

Tinctura Ferri Malatis Crudi. Tincture of Crude Malate of Iron. This tincture  is made from ferrated extract of apples, alcohol, and cinnamon water. Used as a  chalybeate.
The dose is one fluidrachm ( 4 cc. )

TINCTURA GALLAE. N. F.
Tincture of Nutgall [Tr. Gall.]

This tincture is made from nutgall, 20 per cent., and glycerin, l0 volumes,  in alcohol. Made by maceration, instead of the percolation of the U. S. P. VIII. The menstruum  was not changed. Used as an astringent.
The dose is one fluidrachm ( 4 cc.)

TINCTURA GUAIACI. N. F.
Tincture of Guaiac [Tr. Guaiac]

This, like the tincture of the U. S. IX, represents 20 per cent of guaiac in  acoholic menstruum.
Dose, one fluidrachm ( 4 cc. )

TINCTURA GUAIACI AMMONIATA. N. F.
Ammoniated Tincture of Guaiac [Tr. Guaiac Ammon.]

This is similar to the tincture of the U. S. IX and represents 20 per cent,  of guaiac in a menstruum of aromatic spirit or ammonia.
Dose, from one to  two fluidrachms ( 2-4 cc. )

TINCTURA GUAIACI COMPOSITA. N. F.
Compound Tincture of Guaiac [Tr. Guaiac. Co.] Dewee's Tincture of  Guaiac

This tincture is. made from guaiac potassium carbonate and pimenta, In a  menstruum of diluted alcohol. Used for rheumatism, and as an emmenagogue.
The dose is one fluidrachm ( 4 cc. )

TINCTURA HUMILI. N. F.
Tincture of Hops [Tr. Humul.]

This tincture, is made from hops, 20 per cent., in diluted alcohol. Made by  maceration and subsequent percolation. Used as a sedative and bitter tonic. 
The dose is one fluidrachm (4 cc.)

TINCTURA HYDRASTIS. N. F.
Tincture of Hydrastis [Tr. Hydrast.] Tincture of Golden SeaI.

This, like the tincture of the U. S. IX) represents 20 per cent. of  hydrastis; One hundred cc. of Tincture of Hydrastis yields not less than 0.36 Gm. and not more than 0.44  Gm. of the ether-soluble alkaloids of hydrastis. N. F.

TINCTURA IGNATIAE. N.F.
Tincture of Ignatia [Tr. Ignat.]

This tincture is made from ignatia, 10 per cent., alcohol, eight volumes, and  water, one volume. An assay is provided in the text which states that 100 cc. of  the tincture should yield not less than 0.18 Gm. nor more than 0.22 Gm of  alkaloids of ignatia. Its uses are similar to those of Tincture of Nux  Vomica.
The dose is ten minims ( 0.6 cc.)

TINCTURA IODIDORUM. N.F.
Tincture of Iodides [Tr. lodidor.]

Replacing Tinctura lodi Decolorata; Decolorized Tincture of Iodine. Although  this replaces the former decolorized tincture of iodine the formula differs  importantly in that potassium iodide is used in the place of sodium  thiosulphate. It is practically a solution of potassium and ammonium iodides in  dilute alcohol. It is used externally but is of little value.

This tincture contains 16.5 Gm of iodine and 3.3 Gm of potassium iodide in  each 100 cc. The solvent is about 70 per cent. alcohol.

TINCTUR.A IPECACUANHAE. N. F.
Tincture of Ipecac [Tr. Ipecac.] Replacing Vinum Ipecacuanhae N. F.  IV.

One hundred cc. of Tincture of Ipecac yields not less than 0.135 Gm. and not  more than 0.165 Gm. of the ether-soluble alkaloids of Ipecac. N. F. It is made  by diluting the fluidextract, and represents 10 per cent. Tincture of Ipecac may be dispensed when Vinum  Ipecacuanhae (Wine of Ipecac) is ordered N. F.
Dose, from ten to twenty  minims ( 0.6 -1.2 cc.)

TINCTURA IPECACUANHAE ET OPII. N. F.
Tincture of Ipecac and Opium [Tr. Ipecac. et Opii] Tincture of Dover's  Powder.

This tincture is made from tincture of deodorized- opium, fluidextract of  ipecac, and diluted alcohol, representing 10 per cent each of deodorized opium  and ipecac.
The dose is from five to ten minims ( 0.3 - 0.6 cc. )

Tincture of Jalap [Tr. Jalap.]

This tincture is made from 20 per cent. of jalap, with alcohol and  water.
The dose is one fluidrachm ( 4 cc. )

TINCTURA JALAPAE COMPOSITA. N.F.
Compound Tincture of Jalap [Tr. Jalap. Co.]

It is made from 12.5 per cent. of jalap and 3.0 per cent. of scammony, with  alcohol and water.
The dose is one fluidrachm { 4 cc.)

TINCTURA OPII CROCATA. N. F.
Tincture of Opium with Saffron [Tr. Opii Crocat.]
Sydenham's Laudanum; Tinctura Opii Crocata.

This tincture is made from granulated opium, saffron, cinnamon, and clove, by  maceration and subsequent percolation with diluted alcohol.
An assay is provided. "  One hundred cc. of tincture of opium with saffron contains not less than 0.95  Gm. and not more than 1.05 Gm. of anhydrous morphine." N. F.
The dose is from five to ten minims (0.3 - 0.6  cc.)

TINCTURA OPII ET GAMBIR. COMPOSITA.N.F.
Compound Tincture of Opium and Gambir [Tr. Opii et Gambir Co.]

Tinctura Pectoralis, N.F ... IV ; Guttm Pectorales; Pectoral Drops; Bateman.s  Pectora1 Drops.
This is made with a menstruum of diluted alcohol. Each fluidrachm represents  approxiniately 2.4 minims of tincture of opium, 3.6 minims of compound tincture of gambir  and 0.22 grain of camphor. It is intended for infants.
The dose for an infant is from  ten to fifteen minims (0.6-1 cc.)

TINCTURA PASSIFLORAE. N.F.
Tincture of Passion Flower [Tr. Passiflor.]

This is a 20 per cent. tincture of passion flower made with. diluted  alcohol.
The dose is from ten to thirty minims (0.6 - 1.2 cc.)

TINCTUR.A PERSIONIS. N.F.
Tincture of Cudbear [Tr. Persion.]

This tincture is made from cudbear (10 per cent.), with a menstruum of three  volumes of alcohol and one of water. Used as a bright red coloring agent.

TINCTURA PERSIONIS COMPOSITA. N.F.
Compound Tincture of Cudbear [Tr. Persion. Co.]

This tincture is made from cudbear {1.5 per cent.), and caramel (10 per  cent.) with a mixture of one volume of alcohol and two of water as the menstruum. Used as a  brownish-red coloring agent.

TINCTURA PULSATILAE. N.F.
Tincture of Pulsatilla [Tr. Pulsatil.]

This tincture is made from 10 per cent; pulsatilla, using as a menstruum  three volumes of alcohol, and one volume of water.
The dose is thirty minims (2 cc.).

TINCTURA QUASSIAE. N.F.
Tincture of Quassia [Tr. Quais.]

This is the same as the tincture of quassia U. S. IX. It represents 20 per  cent. of quassia.
The dose is from one-half to one fluidrachm ( 2 - 4 cc.)

TINCTURA QUILLAJAE. N.F.
Tincture of Quillaja [Tr. Quillaj.]

This tincture is made from 20 per cent. of quillaja, extracted with boiling  water, the liquid concentrated and 35 per cent. of alcohol added. Used chiefly as an  emulsifying agent.

TINCTURA RHEI AQUOSA. N.F.
Aqueous Tincture of Rhubarb [Tr. Rhei Aq.]

This tincture is made from 10 per cent. rhubarb, with Potassium carbonate,  cinnamon water, alcohol, and water.
The dose is from one to two  fluidrachms (4 - 8 cc.)

TINCTURA RHEI DULCIS. N. F.
Sweet Tincture of Rhubarb [Tr. Rhei Dulc.]

This tincture contains 10 per cent. rhubarb, flavored with licorice, anise,  cardamom seed and glycerin, in a hydroalcoholic menstruum. Used as a laxative and  carminative.
The dose is from one to two fluidrachms (4 - 8 cc.)

TINCTURA RHEI ET GENTIANAE. N.F.
Tincture of Rhubarb and Gentian [Tr. Rhei et Gent.]

This tincture is made with a menstruum of diluted alcohol. Each fluidrachm  represents about 4 grains of rhubarb and 1 grain of gentian.
The dose is from one to two fluidrachms (4 - 8 cc.)

TINCTURA SABAL ET SANTALI. N.F.
Tincture of Saw Palmetto and Santal [Tr. Sabal. et Santal.]

This tincture is made with a menstruum of four volumes of alcohol and one of  water. Each fluidrachm represents 12 grains of sabal and 3.75 grains of sandal  wood.
The dose is one fluidrachm (4 cc.)

TINCTURA SANGUINARIA. N.F.
Tincture of Sanguinaria [Tr. Sanguin.]

This is made in a similar manner to the tincture of sanguinaria U.S. IX. It  represents 10 per cent. of bloodroot.
The dose is from fifteen to  forty-five minims ( 1-3 cc. )

TINCTURA SERPENTARIAE N.F.
Tincture of Serpentaria [Tr. Serpent.]

This tincture is made from 20 per cent. serpentaria and two volumes of  alcohol and one volume of water as the menstruum.
The dose is from one to  two fluidrachms (4 - 8 cc.)

TINCTURA SUMBUL. N.F.
Tincture of SumbuI [Tr. SumbuI]

This tincture is made from 10 per cent. sumbul with two volumes of alcohol  and one volume of water.
The dose is from one to three fluidrachms ( 4 -  11 cc.)

TINCTURA VANILLAE.. N. F.
Tincture of Vanilla [Tr. Vanill.]

This tincture is made by first extracting the drug with alcoho1, then drying  and grinding the residue with sucrose and percolatihg this with a  hydro-alcoholic menstruum. It represents about 19 per cent. of vanilla. It is  used as a flavoring agent.

TINCTURA VIBURNI OPULI COMPOSITA. N.F.
Compound Tincture of Viburnum [Tr. Viburn. Opul. Co.]

This tincture is made with a menstruum of glycerin, alcohol, and water. It  contains in each fluidrachm about 2 grains each of viburnum opulus and dioscorea and 3/5 grain  of scutellaria and is flavored with cinnamon and cloves.
The dose is  officially given as one fluidrachm ( 4 cc. ) but a fluidounce ( 30 cc. ) would  contain less than one-half an average dose of the combined ingredients.

Ethereal Tinctures

In the general formula for ethereal tinctures the quantity of drug is 10 per  cent. .A menstruum of one volume of ether and two volumes of alcohol is used. Percolate in the  usual manner, but with proper precautions to avoid evaporation.

TINCTURAE MEDICAMENTORUM RECENTIUM. N.F.
Tinctures of Fresh Drugs.

In the general formula for tinctures of fresh drugs 50 per cent. of the fresh  drug is macerated with alcohol.

TROCHISCI EUCALYPTI GUMMI. N.F.
Troches of Eucalyptus Gum [Troch. Eucalypt. Gum]

Troches of Red Gum; Red Gum Lozenges. Each of these contains about 1 grain  (0.06 Gm.) of eucalyptus gum.

TROCHISCI ULMI N.F.
Troches of Elm [Troch. Ulmi]

Each troche contains three grains (0.2 Gm. ) of elm, flavored with methyl  salicylate. Used as a demulcent.

UNGUENTUM BITUMINIS SULPHONATI. N.F.
Ointment of Sulphonated Bitumen [Ung.Bitum. Sulphon.] Ichthyol  Ointment.

This represents 10 per cent. of sulphonated bitumen in petrolatum.

UNGUENTUM CALAMINAE.. N. F.
Calamine Ointment [Ung. Calamin.] Unguentum Calaminare; Turner's  Cerate.

It contains 17 parts of calamine, with 83 parts of ointment. This sedative  protective ointment has properties similar to those of the ointment of zinc oxide, over which it has  the advantage of being a pinkish color and hence not so conspicuous when applied to the skin. 

UNQUENTUM CAMPHORAE. N.F.
Camphor Ointment [Ung. Camph.]

It contains 22 per cent. of camphor, with white wax and lard.

UNGUENTUM CAPSICI. N. F.
Ointment of Capsicum [Ung. Capsic.]

It represents 5 per cent. of the oleoresin of capsicum in a base of  petrolatum and paraffin.

UNGUENTUM FUSCUM. N.F.
Brown Ointment [Ung. Fusc.] Unguentum Matris; Mother's Salve.

It contains 50 per cent. of camphorated brown plaster, with olive oil and  suet, equal parts.

UNGUENTUM HYDRARGYRI CHLORIDI MITIS. N.F.
Ointment of Mild Mercurous Chloride [Ung. Hydrarg. Chlor. Mit.]

Calomel Ointment; Prophylactic Ointment. This contains 30 Gm. of calomel with  70 Gm. of white petrolatum.

UNOUENTUM HYDRAROYRI NITRATIS. N.F.
Ointment of Mercuric Nitrate [Ung. Hydrarg. Nit.] Citrine Ointment

It is made in the same manner as the citrine ointment of the U. S. IX by the  interaction between mercury and nitric acid. It differs somewhat from the corresponding British  preparation.

Ointment of Red Mercuric Oxide [Ung. Hydrarg. Oxid. Rub.]

This ointment is made with red mercuric oxide, 10 per cent., water, hydrous  wool fat and petrolatum.

UNGUENTUM IODI DENIGRESCENS. N.F.
Stainless Iodine Ointment [Ung. lod. Denig.
]
This is made by dissolving iodine in oleic acid and incorporating with a base  of petrolatum and paraffin. It represents 5 per cent. of iodine although it may be questioned  whether the therapeutic virtues of this are altered by the manipulations.

UNGUENTUM PICIS COMPOSITUM. N.F.
Compound Tar Ointment [Ung. Pic. Co.]

This represents 4 per cent. of oil of tar, 2 per cent. of tincture of benzoin  and 3 per cent. of zinc oxide in a base of yellow wax, lard, and cotton-seed  oil.

UNGUENTUM PLUMBI IODIDI. N.F.
Ointment of Lead Iodide [Ung. Plumb. lod.]

This ointment is made from lead iodide, 10 per cent., and benzoated lard, 90  per cent.

UNGUENTUM POT ASSII IODIDI. N.F
Ointment of Potassium Iodide [Ung.Pot.iod.]

This ointment should be freshly made with 10 Gm. potassium iodide, 1 Gm.  sodium thiosulphate, 9 Gm. of water, and 80 Gm. benzoinated lard.

UNGUENTUM RESORCINOLIS COMPOSITUM. N.F.
Compound Resorcinol Ointment [Ung. Resorcin. Co.]

It contains 6 per cent. each of resorcinol, zinc oxide, bismuth sub nitrate,  and rectified oil of birch tar, with petrolatum, anhydrous wool fat, and  glycerin.

UNGUENTUM SINAPIS. N.F.
Mustard Ointment [Ung. Sinap.] Ointment of Oil of Mustard.

It represents 0.2 per cent. of oil of mustard in a base of lard and white  wax.

UNGUENTUM STRAMONII. N.F.
Stramonium Ointment [Ung. Stramon.]

This is made in a similar manner to the stramonium ointment of the U. S. IX.  It represent, 10 per cent. of the extract of stramonium.

UNOUENTUM SULPHURIS ALKALINUM. N.F.
Alkaline Sulphur Ointment [Ung. Sulphur. Alk.]

This ointment is made with 20 Gm. sublimed sulphur, 10 Gm. of potassium  carbonate, 5 cc. water, and 65 Gm. benzoinated lard.

UNGUENTUM SULPHURIS COMPOSITUM. N.F.
Compound Sulphur Ointment [Ung. Sulphur. Co.] Wilkinson's Ointment; Hebra's  Itch Ointment

It contains 10 per cent: of precipitated calcium carbonate, 15 per cent. of  sublimed sulphur, 15 per cent. of oil of cade, with soft soap and lard.

UNGUENTUM VERATRINAE. N.F.
Veratrine Ointment [Ung. Veratrin.]

This ointmerit is made with veratrine, 4 Gm., expressed oil of almond, 6 Gm.,  and benzoinated lard, 90 Gm.

UNGUENTUM ZINCI STEARATIS. N.F.
Ointment of Zinc Stearate [Ung. Zinc Stear.]

This ointment is made with zinc stearate, 50 Gm., and white petrolatum, 50  Gm. 'the U.S.P. VIII directed the incorporation of the melted zinc stearate,  while the N. F. IV directs the incorporation of the zinc stearate without  heat.
