The Fluidglycerates are only suitable for Galenicals of minerals or metals.  With the exception of the Phlobotannins, glycerine is destructive of vegetable  substances and should at all cost be avoided. Your attention is drawn to the USD  remarks on the preparation of them. Therein lies the problem. The bulk of the  extractive is disposed of with the used filter papers. The extractive having  undergone chemical, change due to the action of the glycerine, and is no longer  soluble. This also calls into question the efficacy of all preparations of  glycerine and plant drugs.

FLUIDGLYCERATA. N.F.
Fluidglycerates.

Fluidglycerates are intended to be of the same drug strength as  fluidextracts. They contain approximately 50. per cent by volume, of glycerin  and no alcohol.
Fluidglycerates made from drugs that do not require either an  acid or an alkaline menstruum may be by a general process which embodies maceration, percolation, and evaporation to a  given volume. The preparation is then allowed to stand for a few days, and the  clear portion decanted and the remainder strained. menstruum may be prepared by a general process which embodies maceration, percolation, and evaporation to a  given volume. The preparation is then allowed to stand for a few days, and the  clear portion decanted and the remainder strained.

GLYCERITUM BISMUTHI. N.F.
Glycerite of Bismuth [Glycer. Bism.]

One hundred millilitres of glycerite of bismuth yields not less than 12.5 Gm.  of bismuth oxide and not more than 13.5 of bismuth oxide (Bi 2 O3) corresponding  to about 40 Gm. of Bismuth and Sodium Tartrate." N. F. It is made from bismuth  sub nitrate, nitric acid, tartaric acid, sodium bicarbonate, glycerin, and  distilled water. It is used in making other preparations containing bismuth. An  assay is provided in the text. As the bismuth in this compound is in a soluble  form it does not represent the virtues of bismuth sub nitrate which are largely  due to. the insolubility of that salt.
